Sleepmonsters har lagt ut sin første artikkel om årets VM. Løypelegger Gary Thompsett uttaler følgende:
“I have been visualizing and planning this championship course over the past three years during the development of the previous Wilderness ARC races staged in 2005 and 2006’, said Tompsett, “and can reveal that it will contain more unique, truly dramatic and strenuous challenges than ever before. It takes competitors into the heart of sensational and sometimes unexpected territory of Scotland and will draw on the superlatives of Lochaber and beyond. It's a monster of a route.”
Exactly where that route will go, and what it will include are secret until the race briefing of course, but some details have been released, to allow teams to prepare. They know there will be a tough and mountainous ‘Prologue’ stage on Saturday and are preparing for a course covering 500km with 25,000m of climbing. They know they could be paddling on the ocean, open water swimming, canyoning, trekking, mountain biking and undertaking some strenuous ropes challenges ... and they know the planners expect less than 50% to finish. On the other hand 20 teams have said they are aiming for a top 5 place!
Summing up the course in his latest news briefing Humphreys said, “Perhaps it’s too tough. We’ll see. The weather will make it or break it for many teams, and that is very unpredictable. There’s so much uncertainty ... Where will it start? Where will it finish? How many teams will complete the full course? What’s the prologue all about? Will the satellite tracking work? It’s so exciting!”
You can find out the answers to all those questions right here on SleepMonsters, where we will be carrying live and exclusive reporting of the race as it happens. We’ll have a team of reporters and photographers on the course, news direct from race HQ, webTV from the EDV team, interactive maps, and that new satellite tracking system that will show you where all the teams are.
It’s the race of the year ... and you can follow it all right here!
